Circle of PromiseAlthough breast cancer continues to impact people from all backgrounds, there are significant differences within the mortality rates among racial groups. From 2000-2003 African American women had a 36 percent higher death rate than white women, giving them the highest death rate and poorest survival rate of any other racial or ethnic group for breast cancer.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has pledged to do our part to ensure that African American women are empowered with the information and tools they need to take charge of their own health and serve as ambassadors in their local communities. Komen for the Cure’s Circle of Promise campaign is designed to engage African American women to help end breast cancer forever by fostering increased awareness, support, empowerment and action.

We need your support in reclaiming African American women from breast cancer! Together, we can reduce the number of women dying from breast cancer and increase funding to find a cure.

The Circle of Promise empowers black women to make a promise to take control of their health and become ambassadors to their community. Specifically, we want women to promise three things:

Bullet
Educate! Get the word out about breast cancer’s impact on the African American community and how early detection and treatment can save lives now
Bullet
Engage! We need African American women to get involved in the global breast cancer movement by joining the Circle of Promise and serving as ambassadors within their local communities
Bullet
Give! Foster relationships within the African American community that will help increase financial support for breast cancer research and additional community-related programs

Let’s work together to find a cure. Join the Circle of Promise now.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure®
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested nearly $1 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
